The Power of Purpose My vocation as an author and professional speaker has allowed me to visit with, and learn from, thousands of successful people from all walks of life. In 2000, I embarked on a mission to uncover the true essence of a winning lifestyle. To achieve this goal, I asked one hundred successful people - executives, sales professionals, entrepreneurs, professional athletes and coaches - the question, "In your opinion, what are the keys to a successful and fulfilling life?" To my surprise, I received 92 responses - over 4,000 years of wisdom - to this question. What I discovered were the following core values that fuel the hearts of winners:
Quite honestly, I was surprised that the number one response was Purpose. But, in the ten years since the survey and having experienced some life changing crucibles, I have come to understand the power of being involved in a purpose greater than self. When you reflect on the legacies of some of the world's most respected people - Mother Teresa, Billy Graham, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Abe Lincoln, and Martin Luther King - you understand that they were committed to a cause greater than self.
