"Flush it and move on!"That was the consistent response from my mother when I complained about things. Even though Mom had an eighth grade formal education, she had a PhD in common sense (it's not real common in today's society). She realized that I was the only one who could change my life, and her "flush it and move on" trademark response forced me, from an early age, to accept personal responsibility. When I persisted in complaining about outside forces (people, events, etc) that were creating problems in my life, Mom responded with, "What are you going to do about it?" "But Mom, you don't understand." Her response was still the same, "What are you going to do about it?" Again, she wouldn't allow me to avoid personal responsibility for my life. As you start a new year, I encourage you to accept personal responsibility for committing to the simple acts of daily discipline necessary to achieve your personal and professional goals.
